Positions 17/07/2010 ¦ Positions CEEREAL would like to take this opportunity to comment on the current discussions regarding the conditions of use of the health claims related to beta-glucans and maintenance of normal blood cholesterol concentrations (ID 754, 755, 757, 801, 1465, 2934) pursuant to Article 13(1) of Regulation (EC) No 1924/20061. We appreciate very much that the EFSA Panel on Dietetic Products, Nutrition and Allergies concludes that the food constituent, beta-glucan, which is the subject of the health claims is sufficiently characterised. Also that a cause and effect relationship has been established between the consumption of beta-glucan and the reduction of blood cholesterol concentrations. In those member states where a similar claim is already approved, the specific requirement is set which states a minimum on 0.75g of beta glucan per serving. We therefore believe that products carrying the claim should:
